My social work service is a mobile service, that is, I visit NDIS participants in their homes. However, I am changing my social work practice to include telephone/online counselling services. I have employed a web designer to help me with my website, joined the Australian Association for CBT to network with other counsellors at webinars and am a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers to join other networking events. I have researched the area in South Australia where the prediction for demand is high for therapeutic supports/counselling services under the NDIS.
I am calling NDIS and disability organisations and asking to speak to support coordinators to give a spiel about my counselling services and to say that I have expertise in counselling (especially CBT for Depression, Anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and have times available. This means that I have more time to engage with NDIS participants because I will not be driving long distances to see them. This is my niche because I really enjoy working with participants in this way and providing services over the phone and online is the best way to operate in the COVID environment as well.
I am not neglecting my current counselling and social work clients whom I work with face to face. I am building on my current practice to engage with counselling clients. I am tailoring my social work practice to suit my expertise and passion. I look forward to connecting with NDIS participants and sharing in their journey towards an ordinary and meaningful life.
